I brought this wireless unit because it has nothing to adjust, unlike the last wireless I owned. Also, I’m a bassist and need to transmit frequencies below 50Hz where so many traditional wireless units cut off (this goes down to 10Hz).
Basically, it’s a wireless cable. The range in fantastic (my wireless IEM drops before this does), and the battery life is acceptable (each battery lasts about 1 gig, plus sound check for the next gig). I’d rather it used something besides 9V batteries (they get expensive if you gig a lot).
The instrument cable they provide is cheap and shoddy, and won’t last. Mine was making noise after just a few gigs. Get the “premium cable” and it’ll all be good, though they want a pretty penny for it.
The overall build quality feels cheap, but holds up well. I was worried about the battery door on the transmitter, but it’s been fine playing about 8-14 shows a month. The plastic case on the receiver had flash and burrs from the molding process, it doesn’t look as refined as it should be. The front panel on mine didn’t fit right and had a little tab sticking out. I took it apart, shaved the ill-fitting piece, and put it back together. For the money it cost (I bought it when they were still around $500), I thought the build should have been much nicer.
In summary:
Pros: Performance is utterly phenomenal, and it’s built tough.
Cons: Fit and finish pretty well blows. 9V batteries are expensive. Plan on getting the “premium cable”, the one that comes with it won’t last and can’t be repaired (molded connectors).
I would recommend this to a friend, with the caveats above. I’d say it’s the best unit available, but there’s still room for improvement in power source and build quality.
